Pectin business

GOAL

Unitec Foods has been responsible for accelerating the development of pectin applications in the supply chain and expanding the sales of these products.
Pectin, a byproduct of fruit juice production, is once again attracting attention. We are striving to meet the growing needs across industries and create a society in which waste can be recycled and used in a sustainable manner.

PRODUCT

Pectin
Pectin is a plant-derived natural gelling agent made from the starting material of apple pomace and lemon peels. The fruit is squeezed leaving the juice residue, which becomes an edible raw material that facilitates the upcycling of food. In the food industry, it is often used as an additive for jams, yogurt drinks, and nursing food.

Plant based meat business

GOAL

Unitec Foods has been contributing to the development of additives for various foods with our core technology of food polysaccharide technology. Another part of our efforts have been aimed toward the creation of alternative meat textures, and we have developed and marketed an original product called NIKUVEGE (Plant based meat).
Our goals are to contribute to the creation of delicious meat substitutes with our technology and improve the physical properties of foods. This will create a society in which many people can accept and eat meat substitutes as a new type of food on a daily basis and continue to enjoy a rich food culture.

PRODUCT

The NIKUVEGE series reproduces the taste and texture of real meat dishes without using any animal ingredients. Currently, six products are available: hamburger patty, petit burger, hamburger steak, hamburger steak with soymilk cream, soboro (flavored ground meat), and arabiki soboro (roughly ground meat).
All of these products are frozen foods for commercial use, and we are currently developing products for home use as well.

SDGs Training Achievements
Lecturer / Hisaaki Mitsui
Director, SDGs Office, International Development Center. He is also a part-time lecturer at the School of Science and Engineering, Waseda University (Development Cooperation). He specializes in development planning, industrial development, and public finance management.
Since 2014, he has been dispatched to the Ministry of National Development Planning of Indonesia (BAPPENAS) as a development planning expert, and since 2017, he has been supervising the SDG research in the country.
